People of Minnesota Series
Minnesotans can trace their families and their state's heritage to a multitude of ethnic groups. Readers will learn about the group's settlement patterns, occupations, ethnic organizations, and accomplishments. Each book includes a personal story of one person or family, told through a diary, a letter, or an oral history, as well as a reading list for further information. In his introduction to the series, Bill Holm reminds us why these stories are as important as ever: "To be ethnic, somehow, is to be human. Neither can we escape it, nor should we want to. You cannot interest yourself in the lives of your neighbors if you don't take sufficient interest in your own."
This series is based on the critically acclaimed book They Chose Minnesota: A Survey of the State's Ethnic Groups (MHS Press). The volumes in The People of Minnesota bring each group's story up to date and add dozens of photographs to inform and enhance the telling.
