Newspaper Article Request

Newspaper Article Request

Before you order

The Minnesota Historical Society has created a digital archive of newspapers from around Minnesota: the Minnesota Digital Newspaper Hub. Many of the older newspapers on the Hub are available to view and search from home. We recommend that you start there when looking for articles from 100 years or more ago.

New: the digital St. Paul Pioneer Press collection from 1861-1961 is available here!

MNHS also offers an Interlibrary Loan service. Minnesota newspapers archived on microfilm can be sent out to local public and university libraries. More information on this service can be found here.

For this research service, Library Staff will search for one individual or event in up to two different newspapers.

About This Research Service
This service is best for newspaper items that have a particular date associated with them, like natural disasters, specific local events, and single front pages. Most newspapers are not indexed, so providing accurate location and date is required.

Staff will search in up to two newspapers in or closest to the location specified. The search includes up to 7 issues of a daily paper or 4 issues of a weekly paper. First article found, if there is a reference to a later article, that article will be included as well.

*This includes as many pages as needed to fit the article, as well as any accompanying photos. The additional cost covers shipping the article in a mailing tube via USPS First-Class Mail (delivery time: 2-5 business days after the order has been completed by staff).

If you have an exact citation for or exact information about the article you are seeking (newspaper, article title, date, page number, etc.) please provide that in the Order Comments box.

If you do not have a target date and place, the following newspaper research options are available to you:

There is a separate research service for obituaries. Request an obituary.

Researchers seeking copies of full newspaper issues should use our Copy Request, microfilm service.

Content note: Historic newspapers in MNHS collections may contain outdated, biased, offensive, and possibly violent language or images.
