Civil War Replica Trefoil Pin
During the Civil War, the Union Army assigned stamped brass badges to each regiment as a way to tell them apart. This trefoil pin, resembling a 3-leaf clover, was used for identification by the Union Second Corps which included the First Regiment Minnesota Volunteer Infantry. For those Minnesotans who served with distinction at the historic Battle of Gettysburg, it was seen as a badge of honor and reflective of the courage and commitment they demonstrated throughout the war.
This is a replica of pins found in the collections of the Minnesota Historical Society.
