Women who changed the world
What motivated eight women, living in a small Minnesota town, to take on the powerful banking industry? Twenty-five years after their groundbreaking 1977 Willmar bank strike, three of the women recall issues behind the walkout and the impact their stand still has today.
The striking woman attracted international attention, including TV appearances and a film, The Willmar 8, parts of which are included in this retrospective. Interviews with the group's attorney, a newspaper reporter and an historian examine the significance of the strike. Two years of picketing, sometimes in windchills of -70° F, made the "8" a powerful symbol of the fight for women's equality.
