Hubert Humphrey Last Speech to Labor DVD
At the September 1977 Convention of the Minnesota AFL-CIO, Vice President Hubert Humphrey gave what would be his last speech to organized labor.
"Words of a True Friend," as the speech came to be called, sums up a moment in time when the fortunes of America's workers seemed brighter and ideas like the shorter work week and other advances still seemed possible before the 20th Century ran out. Humphrey, long-time United States Senator from MInnesota, spent his career fighting for the welfare of workers, for civil rights and for a more decent America.
Though his voice is thinner and mood more somber, the passion and determination of one of labor's favorite sons rings through.
