Newspaper Article Request
Newspaper Article Request
For this research service, Library Staff will search for one individual or event in up to two different newspapers.
Turnaround: Research is usually completed and sent within 60 business days.
About This Research Service: This service is best for newspaper items that have a particular date associated with them, like natural disasters, specific local events, and single front pages. Most newspapers are not indexed, so providing accurate location and date is required.
Staff will search in up to two newspapers in or closest to the location specified. The search includes up to 7 issues of a daily paper or 4 issues of a weekly paper.
*This includes as many pages as needed to fit the article, as well as any accompanying photos. The additional cost covers shipping the article in a mailing tube via USPS First-Class Mail (delivery time: 2-5 business days after the order has been completed by staff).
If you have an exact citation for or exact information about the article you are seeking (newspaper, article title, date, page number, etc.) please provide that in the Order Comments box.
If you do not have a target date and place, the following newspaper research options are available to you:
- Visit the Minnesota Historical Society Library
- Interlibrary loan
- Hire an independent contract researcher
There is a separate research service for obituaries. Request an obituary.
Researchers seeking copies of full newspaper issues should use our Copy Request, microfilm service.
Content note: Historic newspapers in MNHS collections may contain outdated, biased, offensive, and possibly violent language or images.
