Daughters Of The Game: MN Girls' High School Basketball
Daughters Of The Game: MN Girls' High School Basketball
by Dorothy E. McIntyre and Marian Bemis Johnson
This book is an oral history of Minnesota girls high school basketball from its inception in 1891 to the reasons why hundreds of teams disappeared by 1942. The book's real strength and charm lies in the personal recollections from the athletes themselves. The book is filled with photos and memorabilia from scrapbooks carefully preserved over the lifetime of the first 'daughters of the game.'
"This is an important book for young and old, male and female. The stories of these young women in pursuing their passion for basketball will serve to remind, educate and inspire us all in reaching our goals." Ann Bancroft, one of the world's preeminent polar explorers and educator.
In June 2007, the American Association for State and Local History announced that 'Daughters of the Game' was the recipient of its Award of Merit. The press release stated, "The AASLH Leadership in History Awards is the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history."
