To order this request, you'll need to find the individual you're looking for in the 1918 Alien Registration index for Minnesota. To do this, navigate to the Iron Range Research Center's website.

To perform a search, click on Record Type and choose Alien Registration of 1918.

Your search may include exact spellings or first and/or last names, or you can use the dropdown menus in the search box to modify your search parameters. There is also a Soundex option at the bottom of the search box which will pull up similar sounding names. It's best to try various spellings and search types, as names weren't always recorded accurately.

About This Research Service
MNHS holds registration and declaration of holdings forms for non-US citizens (“aliens”) residing in Minnesota in February 1918. These records were created by the Minnesota Commission of Public Safety; federal "enemy alien" registrations of German men are not included.

Each Alien Registration Form includes some or all of the following information:

  • Registrant’s name
  • Address and length of residence there
  • Age
  • Place and date of birth
  • Occupation
  • Marital status
  • Port of entry and date of arrival in the United States
  • Naturalization status
  • Names and ages of living children
  • A male registrant’s draft status
  • Names and relationships of male relatives participating in World War I and the country served
  • Information on the ownership, location, value, sale, and transfer of real and personal property (within and outside of Minnesota).
