Copy Request (microfilm)
Copy Request (microfilm)
How this service works:
Staff will pull one reel of microfilm per order and will find and scan materials described by:
- a known date
- between exact dates, if easily identifiable
- written or received by people or organizations, if easily identifiable
- organized by other objective criteria, for example frame or page numbers.
To successfully submit an order, you will need to look closely at collection finding aid for your microfilm. Finding aids detail how materials are organized within microfilmed collections and many are linked to entries in the Library and Archives Catalog. If you cannot locate a finding aid or are having trouble determining how the materials you want are organized, please call the library at the number listed below or email copyservices@mnhs.org.
Staff will not closely read letters/papers for specific people, events, localities or other information mentioned in the body of the text. For in-depth research within microfilm collections, patrons will need to visit the library, hire an independent researcher, or request film via Interlibrary Loan. Please call the library at 651-259-3300 for more information.
After staff have determined how many scans are in the materials you are requesting, they will communicate with you via email within 10 business days regarding the total cost.
You will have the option of determining how many scans you wish to order based on the price grid above.
If the cost of the scans exceeds your allocated budget, you can choose to cancel the order and you will not need to pay any more than the initial $10 research fee. If, for any reason, staff cannot make copies from the microfilm, the order will be canceled and you will be refunded in full.
If you need scans from more than one reel of microfilm, you will need to place a separate copy request for each reel you are interested in.
More information on using Interlibrary Loan to request microfilm to your local library can be found here.
More information on hiring an independent researcher can be found here.
