“On This Day” Newspaper Request

For this service, Library staff will search one newspaper in the location and on the date of your choosing. When available we will send a copy of:
- the front page
- a local news page
- a sports page
- 1 to 4 pages of culture/lifestyle content (advertisements, movie ads, fashion, etc.)
Price
$5.00 Scanning and digital delivery via email are included in the price
$10.00 additional for paper prints (printed on high quality 11”x17” paper) delivered via First Class USPS mail.

Processing fee
The price of this service includes a non-refundable processing fee of $5. This is not an additional charge; however, if your order is cancelled for any reason, the Minnesota Historical Society will retain that amount.
Turnaround
Research is usually completed and sent within three to four weeks. In some circumstances it may take as long as twelve weeks to complete work. Mail delivery time is three to five days after work has been completed.
Please note
Older newspapers may contain outdated, biased, offensive, and possibly violent images or language. If you would like us to avoid that type of content with your order, please write "Good news only" in the text box labeled "Additional information for this research request" and staff will attempt to find more positive news for your request. This may not always be possible!
About This Research Service
This service makes a great birthday or anniversary gift for history lovers!
- For cities with more than one newspaper, staff will send copies from only one of them
- Staff will search one newspaper in or closest to the location specified.
- Because many newspapers are weekly, orders for locations with weekly papers will not be on the exact date specified.
- If you want to ensure that your items are from the exact date, please select a city with a major daily newspaper. Recommendations include: Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, Rochester, St. Cloud, and Mankato.
